Are you looking for the experience of a lifetime?

Search no more! At Meiji Internships we truly believe that interning in Asia is the gateway to your future and that we can help you achieve your goals. Interning in Asia is your first step in starting an international career, it will facilitate both your professional and personal growth. The rewards from interning abroad are countless! From cultural exposure to independence to professional and language skills, you will gain a lot. When considering interning abroad, you will have to make all the related costs fit your budget as most – not all – internships are unfortunately unpaid. So how do you finance your project? Here are some useful pieces of advice to help you reach your goal, as well as websites you might want to check out.

Grants and Scholarships

You must be aware that each scholarship/grant programme is different, and has its own requirements and deadline, so don’t wait and instead, start gathering information as soon as possible.
Now, if we go back to basics, grants are need-based while scholarships are merit-based. Either way, it means money you do not have to pay back, so we can also talk about free money!
There are various scholarship search engines such as The European Funding Guide, Go Overseas and Go Abroad to help you find and apply for funding opportunities. Similarly, there are plenty of private or public organizations that provide financial aid for young people. We have listed some of them here sorted by citizenship:

North America

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

NAFSA

US Department of Education’s financial aid

Freeman-Asia

International Financial Aid and College Scholarship Search

Social Network Scholarship

European Countries

Erasmus Grant

The Global Study Awards

Social Network Scholarship

Australia

Australian Institute of International Affairs VIC Euan Crone Asian Awareness Scholarship

Australian Institute of International Affairs WA Bursary

The Winston Churchill Fellowship

New Colombo Plan Funding

TAFE

New Zealand

Prime Minister’s Scholarship for Asia

This is not a comprehensive list, so we advise you to complete your research and look at entities within your home country, or at regional organizations.

If you are a student, you might want to ask your university whether they have funding programmes or offer any kind of support to their students, or check their website for further information regarding grants and scholarships.
Aside from universities and organizations, governments are also likely to offer funding to students looking to intern abroad so the next step would be to check on embassy websites to find out more.
Generally speaking, the chance to get such scholarships/grants is usually quite slim due to competition, but it costs nothing to send out applications and just give it a try.

Crowdfunding

If you are ready and excited to start planning your trip, but discouraged by a financial roadblock, Meiji Internships has another solution for you. We have teamed up with FundMyTravel, an online platform where you can fundraise for your upcoming travels with us. Create your own unique campaign page, complete a brief profile to build trust, and get sharing to watch the dollars come flying in!
FundMyTravel has a team of dedicated staff who want to help Meiji Internships participants reach their fundraising goals. They can provide tips and insights on the best ways to spread the word and offer sharing tools to get your campaign greater exposure through social media and email. Some alternative crowdfunding platforms to fund your internship in Asia: GoFundMe and GoGetFunding are two of the two most reliable crowdfunding platforms. They are easy to use and let you set up a campaign for whatever it is that you want to raise money for.

Part-time job

First of all, you can start looking for a part-time job to save up. Unlike a scholarship or crowdfunding campaign, a part-time job is likely to make your life busier. Nonetheless, you will not only earn the basic funds for your internship in Japan but also enhance your professional and personal skills. All in all, you will learn how to manage your time efficiently and demonstrate to the outside world that you are hard-working and not afraid of investing time and effort in achieving your dreams.

Once in a Lifetime !

Do not underestimate the value of an international internship!
Doing an internship in Asia is a unique life experience and your first step in starting an international career. Many of our former students even found their future job by starting their journey with an internship at a global Asian company!
