When Covid-19 hit, all our lives were drastically impacted. From not being able to see loved ones to have to make a living from home. At first, it was manageable, however, as time kept going on, many individuals have developed serious mental health problems, causing difficulties not only in their personal but also in creating a healthy work-life balance during Covid.

How can you maintain a healthy work-life while being stuck at home? Simple, we have created a small guide to help ease your worries and get back into the workflow with a work-life balance during covid that will help you stay healthy AND productive!

#1: Create a routine for yourself

Do you remember the days before Covid-19, where you would wake up at a set time to get ready to go to work? Well, this is sort of the same concept, except you can make this a bit more flexible to fit your lifestyle.

Whether you are a morning bird or a night owl, you can create a routine that best suits you. This routine can include everything from what time you wake up to when you have a break after working. This is a great way to help you feel like there is some structure during this unpredictable time.

#2: Dress Properly for your workday

Obviously, you are in the comfort of your home, and you are more than welcome to dress in whatever you like, however, we suggest you change into your usual work clothes. This will help trick your brain and get it into work mode.

Yes, your pajamas are warm and comfy, but a nice clean outfit can help brighten your mood and encourage you to accomplish more throughout your workday at home.

#3: Make small goals for the day

At Meiji, we have been doing this tip for the last couple of years, and it might sound silly to make random little goals here and there, but it is an amazing way to help you feel a sense of accomplishment or a feeling of “I did it!”

Your goals can be something as small as cleaning up your schedule to start that new hobby you saw on TikTok. Or trying out a new cooking recipe that you stumbled upon on Facebook. Whatever your goal of the day is, remember to treat it as a goal and not as a task, being that if it becomes a task you will want to push it off and procrastinate.

#4: Put away all distractions

Ever heard that saying, “Out of sight, out of mind”? Many tend to put their phone on silent mode but keep it right next to them at all times, which only makes it easier to get distracted. Instead, try setting your devices on ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode and put your devices somewhere you can not easily see them.

This can be in a drawer, or maybe even in another room. This will allow you to focus solely on the task at hand. Not only is this helpful for your work-life at home, but it can also help when it comes to studying or when you need a break from devices and want to enjoy some ‘me’ time.

#5: Make some time for yourself during Covid

Making time for yourself is a moment where you can reconnect with yourself, either mentally, physically, or spiritually. During these times it can be stressful, overwhelming, and even scary, but take a moment to breathe in and out.

This designated time can be having a quick dance break or even taking a small catnap. Whatever you enjoy doing, make sure to forget about everything else and concentrate on yourself, because you deserve some ‘me’ time. That way you will really get the chance to create a healthy work-life balance.
